Rule of Thirds Photograph

PHOTO 1: RULE OF THIRDS
  1. Where did you find the photo? I found the photo on elizabethbernsteinphoto.com/blog/wp-content/
  2. Who is the photographer? Elizabeth Bernstein
  3. When was the photo taken? August 21, 2009
  4. What did you like about the photograph? This should be about a paragraph. What I really like about this photo is that it makes the big city look small in comparison to the wide and large span of the sky. I also like the scenery of the city and how crowded and masculine it looks compared to the subtle and calm sky.
  5. What kind of lighting was used? Natural or artificial, high or low contrast, dramatic or subtle. This photograph was taken in black and white. The lighting is natural and with some high and low contrast. 2/3 of this picture is subtle, and the bottom where the city lies, it looks crowded and dramatic.
  6. How did the photographer use composition skills in the photo? Where is the emphasis and how did the photographer create emphasis? The photographer used composition skills in this photo by creating a contrast of the city and clouds. The emphasis in this photo is The middle of the big cloud. The photographer created emphasis by shooting at what seems to be a clear straight on angle. They made the city look balanced by not with emphasis.
  7. What do you think the photographer is trying to communicate with this work? How clearly do you think that the message is being communicated?I think the photograpger is trying to communicate how small the "big" city looks with the sky. Although the city is quite large to us humans, its tiny and small compared to the sky and beyond. I think this message is communicated well because the city only cover 1/3 of the picture compared to the 2/3 of clouds and sky.
