Value Contrast Photograph

Photo 4: Value Contrast
  1. Where did you find the photo? inlinethumb12.webshots.com/45515/20437
  2. Who is the photographer? Kier Selinsky
  3. When was the photo taken? 2001
  4. What did you like about the photograph? This should be about a paragraph. What I like about this photo is that the person jumping looks powerful and she looks like she's taking a risk and jumping for hopes of reaching the other side. I also like the intense contrast of her jumping and the bright sky behind her. I also like the contrast of the rock or surface she is jumping from and the sky behind it. I think it creates a very interesting effect.
  5. What kind of lighting was used? Natural or artificial, high or low contrast, dramatic or subtle. Natural lighting was used. There is very high contrast in this photo and the picture seems to be somewhat subtle because there's not a lot of textures or dramatic lines.
  6. How did the photographer use composition skills in the photo? Where is the emphasis and how did the photographer create emphasis? The photographer used contrast in this photo by having the jumper and the rock seem very black and dark, while the sky is very bright. The photographer created emphasis with the jumper in mid air and all the contrast around her.
  7. What do you think the photographer is trying to communicate with this work? How clearly do you think that the message is being communicated? I think the photographer is trying to send the message of taking risks. The contrast behind this photo makes the jumper seem even more risky and you cannot see her actual face. She is disguised with the black of her body but you can tell she's human and shes taking a risk by jumping. I think the message is communicated clear because she is very mysterious and dark while the sky behind her seems bright and happy.
