Photo Blog Assignment #2

  1. Where did you find the photo? http://photography.nationalgeographic.com/photography/photos/best-pod-june-09/#colosseum-italy_3566_600x450.jpg
  2. Who is the photographer? Douglas Wylie
  3. When was the photo taken? December 2009
  4. What did you like about the photograph? This should be about a paragraph. I really like the scenery of the Colosseum and the reflection of it in the puddles of water. I like how the picture confuses the mind and you have to think for a second about which one is the real Colosseum. I really enjoy the lighting used to make the Colosseum look immaculate and powerful, while the rest of the city is dark and rainy.
  5. What kind of lighting was used? Natural or artificial, high or low contrast, dramatic or subtle. There is natural and artificial light used. Artificial lighting is used inside the Colosseum to create a glow indoors. The picture is also dramatic with the contrast between light and dark of the night time and Colosseum.
  6. How did the photographer use composition skills in the photo? Where is the emphasis and how did the photographer create emphasis? The emphasis in this picture is the small purple light that reflects on the puddles from the Colosseum. The photographer shot the angle from below and made the Colosseum and the environment around it look very large
  7. What do you think the photographer is trying to communicate with this work? How clearly do you think that the message is being communicated? I think the photographer is trying to communicate the message of the majesty and beauty of the Colosseum.
